History West Coast Jazz

“West Coast Jazz" is the music of Los Angeles and  San Francisco that began in the 1950’s. It was widely condemned by the eastern jazz  critics mainly because it was not based in New York.  The music followed  the east coast trends but sounded lighter and is more experimental.  Enjoy  'Wistful Samba'  ft. Bud Shank and Dr Clare Fischer on the piano.   Frankly Jazz was a half-hour television program produced in Los Angeles  in the early 1960s.  Each program featured one or more prominent West  Coast Jazz performer of the day,  hosted by Frank  Evans, a leading jazz DJ.
